Fenella Speece, President
In 1996 Fenella visited an adoption event in Balboa Park and became the proud “mum” of a male guinea pig called Sam. As a newcomer to San Diego, this was her first exposure to the local rescue community. Hearing that many small animals were in need of rescue, Fenella joined with other fellow small animal lovers to create the foundation of Wee Companions. She was instrumental in establishing the rescue as a 501(c)(3) and has remained the President of the rescue since 2003.
An RN with a special passion for small animals, she has led the volunteer based organization to become a respected, thriving rescue and adoption agency that networks with shelters all over California. She has travelled to the UK to study at the renowned Cavy Hospital at Cambridge Cavy Trust, and has established working relationships with multiple vets who support her work and help care for the rescue animals.
Being an animal lover, she is usually surrounded by her dogs, cats, tortoises, rabbits and guinea pigs. She loves sitting by her pond enjoying her Koi fish or riding her horses. “I can’t imagine life without my animals, we are all connected and here to take care of each other.”
